First, I hear the whirr. My subconscious identifies the whirr as "airplane." The whirr doesn't doppler like it should. My subconscious brings this sound to my conscious attention. I reassure myself, "airplane." The sound lasts too long and really isn't dopplering like it should. I think, "What? Aaaiirplane?? Why are you making those noiises??" Finally (FINALLY!), my brain goes, "Train."
And yes, this happens Every Single Night.
