Today, I did many things.
I organized our VBS materials, worked on the suggested readings for funerals list, and coordinated with our church musician about Sunday's worship. Working in the office is fun. Our two secretaries are great, and my office is a good working space. Well, it was until I started getting overwhelmed by VBS. VBS, too, shall pass.
I did my first successful hospital visit. How can a hospital visit be unsuccessful? One guy was discharged between when I checked he was there and when I got there. Another woman was away for tests when I got there. Today I took communion to a woman, and her two daughters. She was there, awake and alert, and it went really well. I love doing hospital visits.
I got a whole bunch of VBS stuff from a nearby congregation. They got decorating stuff from another church, so some of the stuff will be going through it's third week of Pandamania. We're really fortunate to be getting this stuff. The van is full of giant cardboard tubes wrapped in mottled green fabric and tied in threes, various jungle/sky/water colored vinyl backdrops, and large panda cut-outs. Tomorrow I will bring it all into my office (the current "staging area") and start sorting it all out.
I made bean dip. And destroyed my favorite (read: only) cutting board. I don't know if it's because the board isn't designed for use with knives, or with that wonderful rocking movement, or if it's because the knife I was using (read: the only knife in the kitchen) was also slightly serrated. Now I'm waiting out the cilantro smell on my hands before I start knitting again. I'm working on the Via Diagonale bag from Knitty, in blue and black. Only I'm running out of black. And my hands smell like cilantro.
Also recently, I finished unpacking/organizing my bedroom, typed up the history of the congregation (when there was a school next door, and the teacher was sometimes paid in kind, and got a cow, the pastor let it graze in the cemetery), and planned the knit "where's Waldo" outfit for Bear's stuffed Higgs Boson.

You're knitting her Higgs Boson a "Where's Waldo" outfit??? I adore my family.
Also - now you love hospital visits? That didn't take long!
Our Lady of Sorrows' VBS is also called Pandamania. Who coordinates these things? And why?
