That was... not completely unfun...

So I had a root canal today. Well, part two of a three part miniseries known as root canal.

(Note: apparently these things cost, like, as much as a real canal.)

I had to go to a specialist (hence the cliff hangers), and I was a little nervous.

However, I realized that all would be well when, after the initial x-ray, the assistant put a squooshy pillow under my neck/head and said, "He'll be in to talk to you of course, but he likes his patients to be as comfortable as possible, so here's the movie list." That's right, a list of over 100 movies to choose from. I chose Luther, since I knew the ending, and it was not comical, but not scary/dramatic/serious. (Seriously, there was a TV hanging from the ceiling.)

Then, as he's administering the novocaine, he starts telling rabbi/minister jokes. And not just because he found out I'm in seminary. Judging by the assistant's eye rolls and comments, he tells these same jokes every time. (So I'm in the market for some new ones for him. Bonus points if they are also about dentistry.)

He and the assistant (and I, when I wasn't absorbed in the movie) joked and teased and chatted the whole time. It made quite the difference. And, he was able to (and did) stop talking and get serious when necessary. But if the guy working on you is comfortable enough to relax, then you relax. It was nice.

And, I made him laugh Out Loud when, after telling him that my twin is studying astrophysics, that we both study the heavens. Then he tried to set one of us up with his daughter's friend Ryan, who is working on his PhD in robotics.

Now Dietrich and I are going to nap. Or have a milkshake. Or knit. Or something. (Hint: no milkshake and no current knitting projects here. And lots of sleepiness.)

I need to find a dentist like yours! It is so great he got you to relax. And movies on demand. Woohoo!

I hope you are feeling well today and healing quickly. Milkshakes always help.
