Warning: Technical knitting ahead

So I totally just invented a new knitting thing. I totally just found the easy solution to grafting ribbing, kitchner-style.

So, as you may know, in regular kitchner grafting you perform as follows:
Front Needle: Insert yarn needle as if to knit and take off the stitch; insert needle (into next stitch) as if to purl, and leave it on.
Back Needle: Insert yarn needle as if to purl and take off the stitch; insert needle (into next stitch) as if to knit, and leave it on.

So you've got two pieces of knitting, with outsides and insides. Warp your thinking thusly: You have two pieces of knitting, with sides facing you (an outside and an inside) and sides facing away from you (an inside and an outside).

Kitchner stitch is worked in pairs. The first one you slip off, the second you leave on, then you go to the other needle. Off and on; off and on; off and on. See?

SO! And here's the awesome. Stop thinking "as if to this; as if to that" and look at your stitches. When you're working the front needle, you've got an outside facing you and your stitches LOOK like knit stitches. So you go as if to KNIT and off, then PURL and on. When you're on the back, you've got an inside facing you and your stitches LOOK like purl stitches. so you go as if to PURL and off, and as if to KNIT and on.

Off and on; off and on.

So! If you're offing a stitch you do what it looks like and if you're leaving it on, you do the opposite. KNIT and off, PURL and on, or vise versa.

Thus, in ribbing, you'll get purl stitches toward you on the front and knit stitches toward you in the back. So you:
Front needle: PURL and off; KNIT and on.
Back needle: KNIT and off; PURL and on.

But, wait, what about the switch in between? So, say my next pair is a knit then a purl. (Toward me, so the back needle is a purl then a knit.) Do this:
Front needle: KNIT and off; KNIT and on.
Back needle: PURL and off; PURL and on.

The reverse happens when going from purl to knit:
FN: PURL and off; PURL and on.
BN: KNIT and off; KNIT and on.
