bad day

There are days where everything goes right. Days when it's cold, but the sun is shining, you have good, deep, thoughtful discussions in class where you understand everything and your brain doesn't explode, when the caf serves edible food, etc. Typically, you don't hear from me on those days. I'm too busy enjoying the fun to blog.

Today is not one of those days. This is one of those cold, heartless days, where your positive expectations are kicked to the curb with a little yelp of surprise, where your negative expectations are fulfilled fourfold, and where even a white mocha smoothie with a shot of mint, or a cafe & cocoa with danish delight coffee (kinda spicy, actually) can't make you feel better:
I forgot to read for this morning's class, so I wasn't completely with it on the discussion.
The caf served tator-tot casserole. I thought I'd get fries with vinegar (they have real stuff now), but the fries were the soggy, icky kind. I thought I'd get a grilled cheese with pickles on it to cheer me up, and it was grilled PBJ. I thought I'd fall back on pizza, and it was icky, premade, been sitting out too long yuck.
But the worst part:
I got a rejection letter from YE. (That post-graduation year-off job I was massive excited about and would have been perfect for except I'm too liberal and if I'm too ecumenical for them am I even going to get through candidacy 'cause people keep telling me I won't and then what'll I do with my life???)

And, I'm out of tissues and chocolate.

Unless that letter specifically said, "You're too liberal for us," I'm not buying it. I've been on too many selection committees - there are a ton of things that are used to thin out overwhelming response to the number of openings that actually exist. Since you don't get feedback, you'll never know - but don't second-guess yourself. They could be striving for balanced teams and you were one of a majority of whatevers. Nothing you could help.

ten said it best. Don't try and second guess these things. The problem with any application process is you never know *what* they want. I am sure you will find many wonderful opportunities in the future. That one just wasn't the right one for you.

And sorry to hear about the yucky food! That often makes a bad day even worse.

Hope you have at least gotten more chocolate. That can help most ailments!
