I'm making dinner for friends tonight. Honey Chicken Stir-Fry. They're bringing the rice and the skillet, I'm making the stir-fry, and providing the iced tea and the butterscotch pudding pie.
All of this means two things: I had to go grocery shopping, and I had to buy a knife.
I now own three! knives (two paring and one chef's) and a cutting board. I also now own salt AND pepper, and minced garlic. I've decided that instead of trying to figure out what spices I might like to "have on hand" and buying randomly, that I'll just buy as my recipes call for them, and eventually I'll have a spice collection.
It's hard to buy (much less plan and cook) when just one person, and when just eating at home on the weekends. The refectory serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner Monday through Thursday, and breakfast and lunch on Friday. So I'm only on my own for the weekends. Means whatever I cook, unless I cook in small quantities, I eat for the whole weekend. but cooking for friends is fun, and means socializing AND getting to cook a normal meal. On internship I'll have more fridge space and more meal eating, so leftovers will be easier to deal with.
So any way, the pie is chilling, the tea is steeping, and the chicken is awaiting its stir-frying fate.
And I... I am taking a rest to read my new Church and State: Lutheran Perspectives book from the library. I try not to go to the library often, and never without a list, but sometimes... I peruse. And that leads to reading, which leads to learning, which leads to wondering, which leads me back to the library. I wonder if my professors would be more likely to understand procrastination on the readings for their classes if they knew that I was procrastinating by reading other random books.
