You can tell it's a rainy Friday close to, yet far from, the end of the semester, when I start thinking about summer reading.
It all started yesterday, when I joined the masses and got a Twitter account. I don't actually plan on Twittering my life, but I have some friends on T that I'd like to follow, and (especially when thinking of some of the news events during which T was the way to get information) there are some groups and organizations I wanted to follow.
So I set up my account and went through their list of recommended groups and people. I really appreciated that for the more well-known groups and people they verify identity, and have a note to that effect on the listings.
So I'm following Spirit and Oppy (Mars Rovers), NASA, Stephen Fry, RL Stine, the White House (but NOT HouseFloor or SenateFloor... only my brother would find that fascinating), 10 Downing Street, and many others. Including, the American Library Association.
The ALA posted this morning the latest Top 10 Most Challenged Books of 2009. Which led to me to look at the top 100 for the decade. And now I have my summer reading list. I've read thirteen of the top 100 (I'm counting the few Goosebumps books I've read as the whole series), twelve of the top 100 for the previous decade (some overlap, but not all), and eleven of the top 100 of the 20th century. And, I have to say, most of the ones I've read so far, I read in high school English class.
Check back later today for pictures of the garden and lawn mowing, and a Musings piece on how the move from linen to wood-based paper has ruined our brains.

I've read 19 from the last decade, 20 from the decade before that, and 20 from the century. Almost all of them for school. Man, I need to read some Vonnegut. He's all over the list.
Also, I think I'm gonna get a twitter account now. You've inspired me.
Among other things, I follow "APStylebook," from which I just learned that the Style Book (paper and online versions) are officially switching from "Web site" to "website." Fascinating! :) Mostly I follow local news and weather (I have the weather sent to my phone, especially during tornado season; very handy if I'm somewhere computerless or electricityless), the ASI account, some science ones, and some distant friends. Still kinda new at it (even after a year) so still finding good ones to follow, or deleting ones that I thought were going to be good, but aren't.
"The Stylebook are...." HAHAHAHA!! Oh, the irony! Okay, I should proofread my comments.....
