SPFs

Well it happened today. I thought about it happening, thought about preparing for it happening, and then convinced myself, "nah... it won't happen." And then it did.

I finished the hat I was knitting half an hour before the end of class. (The three hour class.) So for half an hour I had no knitting to do, and only pink sport weight yarn and size 3 needles. I wracked my brain (while still paying attention to an in-depth discussion on Arianism and the struggle of the early church fathers to define Christ's divinity and how the struggles relate to eschatological issues of our times), I wracked ravelry, and in the end, found nothing. Well, not true... I added many things to my (overflowing) queue. But nothing for pink sport weight yarn and size three needles. (Side bar: if you're interested in the ways in which my brain warps my perception, a facet of my mild dyslexia is that every time I read "pink sport weight yarn" my brain reads "pink sporty weight" until I stop, thinking I've typo'd. Every. Time.)

After class my professor caught my eye and said, "Well, Amanda, at least you accomplished something in class today." (He said it laughingly, not angrily.) And so I went forward to where he was, with hat in hand, and explained that I've found over the years that knitting helps me to pay attention. He replied, "Oh, I know, I just think it's funny." So it's all good, and next time I'll be prepared for Sudden Project Finish syndrome.

You crack me up.

This is why you need to learn to knit socks, and memorize the simplest pattern. Then you make up a little sock emergency kit and keep it in the bottom of your current project bag.

I love everything I hear about this professor.
